Original text:
First of all if you
want a quality salad, you have to buy your beets raw and boil them to
perfection (about an hour I'd say)-- that's how my
salad was made. For lower quality final product you could substitute real beets
with canned staff, which is already cooked.
You shred beets on
a large-hole, hand-operated shredder, then shred pickles. For a can of beets or
two nice-size raw beets you'd want to add two medium size pickles. Then you
take four to five big cloves of garlic and mash it. Add walnuts to the mixture.
Then add mayonnaise (if you use canned beets, get rid of extra liquid, which
will appear in the process of shredding) and seasoning, which normally includes
salt, pepper, some lemon-pepper and some sugar.
Go by your taste,
as I do, as I have a feel for proportions, which you will develop too after
your first experience. That's it.
